This section explores the theme of Responding to bushfires. Students learn what to do in a fire emergency, when and how to make a Triple Zero (000) emergency call. They explore through bushfire scenarios what is involved when implementing a bushfire survival plan. Students also look at the history of firefighting, including present day approaches.
Reporting an emergency to Triple Zero (000)
Overview: Students learn how to call for adult assistance in a bushfire situation by phoning Triple Zero (000) and responding to the operator's questions.
Putting a bushfire survival plan into action
Overview: Through exploring a bushfire survival plan and a bushfire scenario, students are guided to understand the need to plan carefully, respond effectively and with flexibility in a bushfire situation, in order to keep people safe.
Overview: Students look at historical and modern ways bushfires are fought. They also consider the safety equipment used in the modern approach to fighting bushfires and review the elements which allow a fire to burn.
