Early Years

Recovering from bushfires

This section explores how people and places do recover after a bushfire. Designed for children between 4 and 5 years of age, it may also be used with students in Prep. It will help children to consider how people might feel after experiencing a bushfire, how they might respond in different ways to their feelings, and how communities and the natural environment recover.

Exploring recovery after a bushfire can contribute to a child's feelings of safety and promote resilience and coping skills.

How do people and places recover from bushfires?

Learning intention:

Children will be encouraged to explore what people and places do to recover after a bushfire. This session will help children understand how communities can work together to help each other and to rebuild homes and buildings. Recovery related to the natural environment is also important, enabling children to see regrowth and how people help the bush and the animals that live there.
